Vastu Guidelines for Industries

What is Vastu

Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian Vedic building science that provides comprehensive guidelines for constructing buildings in harmony with the natural environment. Its principles focus on managing the flow of cosmic energy through and around structures, ultimately fostering the well-being, peace, and prosperity of the inhabitants.

A well-designed Factory/House embodies aesthetics, hygiene, comfort, and ease of movement, offering a delightful living experience. Naturally, such a dwelling cultivates happiness and contentment among its residents. Conversely, a poorly designed house lacks aesthetic appeal and fails to provide comfort, leading to irritation and dissatisfaction among its occupants.

In essence, Vastu Shastra serves as a profound tool for creating harmonious living spaces that not only align with the natural world but also enhance the overall quality of life. By adhering to its principles, individuals can enjoy a serene and prosperous existence within their homes.

We reside in a world filled with diverse energy fields that freely operate in the open space surrounding us. However, when we introduce structures into our environment, the balance of these energies is disrupted. This is where Vastu comes into play, offering a solution to design structures in a way that ensures a harmonious flow of energy within buildings, restoring equilibrium.

Vastu, as per tradition, refers to the life force contained within the earth. Consequently, any object that possesses life energy and occupies the earth is referred to as Vastu. This includes plants, trees, buildings, and architecture, all of which are considered to be alive and integral parts of the entire living sub-system.

In essence, Vastu provides a means to create a balanced and energetic environment by aligning our structures with the natural flow of energy. By doing so, we can optimize the positive effects of these energy fields, promoting a sense of harmony and well-being within our living spaces.

The Five Elements

Vastu is based on the interplay of various forces of nature involving the five elements, which are earth, water, wind, fire, and space. These elements are also called the Panchabhutas as per Vedic traditions.

All objects in this universe, including our body, are made of these five elements. These elements exist inside and outside the human body and have a constant, though invisible, impact on all activities of life.

Earth-Bhoomi

The first and foremost element of nature which exerts maximum energy. It is necessary to consult the land you are purchasing as plot’s soil, area, and everything matters in Vastu.

The selection of the site is considered very important in Vastu element. A detailed inspection of soil, plot, shape, and size has to be done before commencing the construction. Earth is the most important element in Vastu and influences human lives in every way.
TIP: Placing plants and having rocks or hills in this direction will prove beneficial.

Water: Jala

Water is present on Earth in the form of rain, oceans, seas, and rivers. It is the second foremost element considered in Vastu. Vastu provides proper directions for the placement of water sources.

As far as the flow of domestic water is concerned, it should be drained out of the northeast only. The water bodies such as swimming pools and aquariums etc. need to be made in the northeast as this direction is auspicious.

Fire: Agni

Fire circulates energy in the form of light and heat. Fire is considered as an element of southeast. The sun is the main source of light and heat for us. Care should be taken to ensure the building has a constant supply of light and is completely safe from fire.
TIP: To aid and honour this element, light Diya’s and non-toxic candles.

Air: Vaayu

In Vastu, air is another important element. Air is an element of the North West.
Air consists of various gases on Earth like oxygen, nitrogen, helium, carbon dioxide, etc. Therefore, the shape, size, construction, and direction of buildings should be such that they have a sufficient supply of air for healthy and comfortable living.
TIP: Sitting down, preferably with the windows open, will bring fresh air into your body and into the space surrounding it.

Space: Akasha

Space is the most widely spread element among the five basic elements. The unending spread of the universe, in which all the heavenly bodies exist, is called space. It is also called the universe, which is known as Brahmanand – the place of God. Space has a very important place in our lives, and Vastu gives different directions for better space.
TIP: Avoid placing a heavy object in this area. Honour the Brahmasthan by keeping it clear and clean, a revered space for life to flourish.

Soils of The Plot

White soil is considered auspicious for the residence of scholars, professionals, teachers, and intellectuals. It symbolizes an environment conducive to intellectual pursuits and personal growth.

Red soil is believed to bring good fortune to administrative officials and the ruling class. It signifies power, authority, and success in their endeavours.

For businessmen and traders, yellow soil is considered highly favourable. It is believed to attract prosperity, abundance, and financial success, creating a conducive environment for their commercial activities.

However, caution must be exercised when dealing with black and clayey soil. Such soil retains water and lacks proper drainage, making it unsuitable for construction. Building on such a site would require a specialized foundation and waterproofing, resulting in significantly higher costs compared to a typical foundation.

Similarly, land with rocky soil, abundant rocks, and thorny trees is not considered ideal. This is because it may indicate the presence of underlying rocks that need to be blasted out before laying the foundation. Such unexpected expenditures can significantly impact the overall budget and timeline of the project.

Shape of The Plot

An ideal plot for construction is a square shape, as it offers optimal design possibilities. Additionally, a rectangular plot with a ratio of up to 1:2 can also be considered suitable. However, it is important to note that the longer side of the plot should face towards the East, as this orientation is preferred.

On the other hand, plots with triangular or circular shapes should be avoided, as they can lead to instability in the construction. It is strongly advised against purchasing pentangular, hexagonal, or haphazardly shaped plots. In the unfortunate event that such a plot is acquired, it is recommended to utilize the rectangular or square portion for construction purposes, while the remaining area should be sold, abandoned, or separated by constructing a compound wall.

Among all plot orientations, the one that extends in the northeast direction is considered the most favourable. This orientation provides the best energy flow and overall benefits for the plot.

In conclusion, when considering the purchase of a plot for construction, it is crucial to prioritize square or rectangular shapes with the appropriate orientation. By adhering to these guidelines, one can ensure a more stable and harmonious environment for their future endeavours.

Situation of the plot

An east-facing plot is highly regarded for its auspicious nature, as it receives an abundant amount of solar energy. This orientation ensures that the plot benefits from the maximum exposure to the sun’s rays, which is considered highly favourable.

Similarly, a north-facing plot is also deemed advantageous due to its alignment with the magnetic axis. This alignment attracts magnetic energy, further enhancing the positive attributes associated with this orientation.

On the other hand, a west-facing plot holds particular significance for businessmen, especially those involved in the entertainment industry, such as cinemas, clubs, and pubs. This orientation is believed to bring prosperity and success to such ventures.

Lastly, a south-facing plot having business premises including food business needs a special care and rectification. Because south is the direction of Yama/Death, and relates to end of any growth. Therefore it is essential to consult a qualified and experienced Vastu Expert for necessary modification.

By understanding the significance of plot orientation, one can harness the favourable energies associated with each direction, thereby maximizing the potential for success in various fields.

Bhoomipujan-Worship of the land

Before commencing construction on the site, it is imperative to ensure a thorough cleaning to eliminate any superfluous stones, rubble, earth mounds, pits, and the like. Additionally, all thorny bushes and other trees must be uprooted entirely, with particular attention given to the removal of any babul trees, which should take precedence.

Furthermore, it is essential to conduct a ceremonial land worship in either the eastern or north-eastern corner of the plot, at a strategically chosen hour. This ritualistic act serves to honour the land and bestow blessings upon the forthcoming construction endeavour.

Adhering to these meticulous preparations not only guarantees a clean and unobstructed construction site but also demonstrates a profound respect for the land and its surroundings. By adopting a professional approach and diligently following these guidelines, we can ensure a successful and harmonious construction project.

Beginning of The Construction.

Before commencing construction work, it is imperative to clearly demarcate all four directions. The precise positioning of the pits must be ascertained, ensuring adherence to a clockwise direction. It is crucial to avoid initiating any digging activities in the south-west direction.

To initiate the digging process, it is recommended to commence at the north-east corner, subsequently progressing towards the south-east, and finally moving towards the south-west.

Furthermore, it is highly advantageous to consider excavating a well or an underground water tank prior to the commencement of the actual construction. This strategic approach consistently proves to be beneficial and invaluable.

Construction of Boundary Wall

The construction of the boundary wall should commence from the southwest corner, progressing towards the southeast corner, and then the northwest corner.

Within the designated area, the eastern section should consistently be positioned lower than the western section, and the northern part should be lower than the southern part.

Additionally, the construction on the northeast side should always be at a lower elevation.
To ensure structural integrity, it is imperative that the wall is constructed with a substantial thickness and weight in the lower portion, gradually transitioning to a lighter composition in the upper section. This design approach guarantees stability and balance throughout the wall’s entirety.

By adhering to these guidelines, we can achieve a boundary wall that not only serves its practical purpose but also exhibits a professional and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
