Public Works Department (PWD)
Public Works Department is the premier agency of Govt. of Maharashtra engaged in planning, designing, construction and maintenance of Government assets in the field of built environment and infrastructure development. Assets in infrastructure development include Roads, Bridges, Flyovers, Footpaths, Subways etc. PWD Maharashtra also sustains and preserves these assets through a well developed system of maintenance which includes amongst others specialized services like rehabilitation works, roads signage and aesthetic treatments like interiors, monument lighting, landscaping etc.

Electrical Inspection Department
Following services are offered under Electrical Inspectorate:
- Inspection of Various types of Electrical Installations and granting permission and no objection certificate as per the provisions of I.E.Rule 1956
- Periodical Inspection of low and medium voltage Electrical Installations
- Inspection, approval, and granting no objection certificate for temporary Electrical Installations at public places
- Inspection and permission for charging high and extra high voltage installation of consumer and licensee under rule 63 of I.E.Rule 1956
- a. Approval to the details plan submitted by owner/occupier is to be accorded by Electrical Inspector, on receipt of the payment of prescribed fees. The approval to the plan or to inform to the objection within one week.
- b. On resubmission on plan after compliance the same is to be approved within 3 days
- c. On completion of installation work and submission of necessary documents along with test report from license electrical contractor inspection will be carried out within 2 weeks
- d. If on inspection of the said installation it is found satisfactory according to I.E.Rules and receipt of payment of prescribed inspections fees permission will be granted within 1 week
- Inspection and granting permission for commissioning generating plant installations (capacity above 10 kilowatt)under rule 47A of I.E.Rule 1956
- Approval to the details plan submitted by owner/occupier is to be accorded by Electrical Inspector, on receipt of the payment of prescribed fees. The approval to the plan or to inform to the objection if, in within one week.
- On resubmission on plan after compliance the same is to be approved within 3 days
- On completion of installation work and submission of necessary documents along with test report from license electrical contractor inspection will be carried out within 2 weeks.
- If on inspection of the said installation, it is found satisfactory according to I.E.Rules and receipt of payment of prescribed inspections fees, permission will be granted within 1 week subject to obtaining NOCs from state electricity board and other statutory authority.
- Inspection and granting permission for energizing Electrical Installation of multi-storeyed building (having height more than 15 mtrs.)
- Permission to commence and use of energy in multi-storeyed (more than 15meters in height) building under provision of I..E.Rule 50 (A) will be granted by the Electrical Inspector . For this owner/occupier is required to give notice, with the details of electrical work and necessary test report issued by the Electrical Contractor who has carried out Electrical Installation work, not less than 30 days before making an application for commencement of supply.
- If the said installation is complete in all respect with test report and prescribed inspection fee is paid, then the Time required to issue the no objection certificate is one week. All these above mentioned works are inspected by the concerned Electrical Inspector.
- Registration of Generating sets under Bombay Electricity Duty Act1958.
- The generating sets above 10kilowatt capacity are to be inspected by the Electrical Inspector under I E Rule 47-(a )Of IE Rule 1956 and Registered by the appropriate Authority.
- The Electrical Inspector, assisted by the Electrical Duty Inspector, is observing the provisions under Bombay Electricity Duty Act 1958 and Bombay Electricity Duty Rules 1962 made there under.
- In case of differences regarding levy of Electricity Duty, the consumer is required to apply for refund of electricity duty along with following documents to the concerned Electrical Inspector
- Lifts
The lifts in residential, commercial and industrial buildings need to be installed as per requirement laid down in the development control rules prevailing at the time and as applicable for the site of construction. However, the manufacturing, erection and maintenance of lifts shall be done as per the provisions laid down in Bombay Lift Rules 1958 framed under Bombay Lift Act 1939.
The Chief Engineer (Elec.) is the appropriate authority for observance of provisions under Lift Act and Rules & to issue following permissions.
- Permission to install a lift
- License to operate the lift
Note: The installation & maintenance of lifts shall be carried out by the approved lift contractors only. Chief Engineer (Electrical) gives such approvals.
